This project is featured in Quilt It Quick a Sewing with Nancy book, and is in stock.
*A NOTE FROM NANCY* 1. Prewash and press fabrics. 3. Prepare four groupings (often referred to as "stratas").
*Create stratas using this timesaving chain stitching technique:
- join lenghtwise edges of two fabric strips, right sides together,
using a 1/4" seam. (B)
- At the end of the seam, do not raise the presser foot or cut
threads. Butt a second set of strips to the first and continue
sewing, chain stitching the strips together. (C)
- Continue until required number of strip sets are stitched. Then
clip threads between strips to separate the strips.
- Join additional fabric strips to each strip set as needed, using
the same chain stitching technique. * Stitch two groupings with Fabric C as the outer strips. Arrange one grouping CABAC
and the second grouping CBABC. (D) * Press each grouping so seam allouances lie in opposite directions. For example, on
one strata with Fabric C in the center, press the seam allowances up. On the other strata with Fabric C
in the center, press seam allowances down. (F) 4. Cross-cut each strata into 2 1/2" sections. There will be more sections
than needed for the table runner. Use the extra sections in other projects (for example, a pillow,
placemats, etc.) (G) 5.Stack similar sections, labeling one stack within each grouping "Section 1" and
the other stack "Section 2". (H) 7. Arrange mini-quilt sections on a tabletop, beginning and ending with sections having Fabric C as the
outer color and alternating between the two designs. (K) 8. Add batting, backing, and binding * Layer the table runner in this order: backing, wrong side up; batting; table runner, right side up.
Pin or baste layers together. (M) * Quilt the layers together by stitching in the ditch along seams, working from the center outward. (N)
We will be posting new projects so stay tuned!

There's a suprise waiting for you when you create
this quick table runner. Although you cut only strips, the end result is a series of squares in a 9-patch
design. It's totally quick quilting. Finished size: approximately 18 1/2" x 66 1/2"
Feel free to adapt the size of this table runner to fit your table. Use more or fewer sections, depending on
your desired finished size. The key is using an odd number of sections so you begin and end with the same section.
Again, by varying the number of sections, you can adapt the same technique to make placemats, a pillow top, or a wall
hanging.Materials Needed:
* 1 yd. print Fabric A
* 1 yd. print Fabric B
* 1 1/2 yd. "solid" colored Fabric C
(Note: A good choice for the solid
colored fabric is a very subtle tone
on tone print, rather than a fabric
without shading or design.)
* 1 1/8 yd. backing fabric
* 1 1/8 yd. cotton batting
* Matching thread

MAKING THE TABLE RUNNER:
THE FINISHED PROJECT!
2. Cut fabric for top of table runner. (A)
* Fabric A: Cut 9 strips 2 1/2" x 44"
* Fabric B: Cut 9 strips 2 1/2" x 44"
* Fabric C: Cut 6 strips 6 1/2" x 44"
Cut 4 binding strips 2 1/4" x 44"

* Stitch two groupings with Fabric C as the center strip. Arrange one grouping ABACABA
and the second grouping BABCBAB. (E)

6. Create 9-patch variations by stitching three sections together.
* Using the grouping with Fabric C as the outer strips, chain stitch six pairs of
Sections 1 and 2. Add another Section 1 to create the 9-patch. Finished mini-quilt sections will
have 6" blocks at each end and a 9-patch in the center. (I)
* Using the grouping with Fabric C as the center strip, chain stitch five pairs of Sections 1 and 2.
Add another Section 1 to create the 9-patch design. finished mini-quilt sections will have
9-patches at each end and a 6" block in the center. (J)

* Cut 19" x 45" batting and backing pieces.
* Join short ends to create the length needed for the table runner. (L)

* Trim edges of backing and batting even with top of table runner, measuring to ensure table runner is square.
* Join short ends of 1 1/4" binding strip. Bind outer edges of the table runner using your favorite technique.This project is one of several quick and easy quilting projects included in Nancy Zieman's new video
and booklet,
"Quilt It Quick".
